Imitation is the Highest Form of Flattery x 3

I believe the saying is "Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" but I always say the former. This project finally came to fruition after a third dose of inspiration which was from Anne with Wobi Sobi: DIYer, ReStyler, artiste extraordinaire!

Finally, earrings holders!

A year ago, Emily with Cupcakes and Cashmere posted her necklace display which was a row of glass knobs from Anthropologie (I'm not sure how I stumbled upon this post since I didn't enter the blogosphere until August of last year). At the time I didn't have very many necklaces, but I needed something for my collection of earrings. Wrapping corkboard with material and using T-pins popped into my head. It's nothing like the glass knob display, but that helped get my wheels turning.

A few months later--and still no earring holder--Molly with Dot Girl Blog shared her project of covering her corkboard with old book pages. I thought of doing the same, but decided I'd use origami paper we have.

A few months later--and still no earring holder--Anne with Wobi Sobi shared a picture frame earring holder. I showed it to my hubby and told him that I still need to do my corkboard earring holder with origami paper. He had previously likened it to a tool holder and asked me if I was going to outline each pair so I knew which pair belonged where. This time he didn't mock and helped me get supplies.

He liked my previous idea of fabric so we went to Jo-Ann Fabrics, but after we went to Staples to pick up stuff for his work. I knew my corkboard wasn't big enough for my earring collection, so I picked up these corkboard squares.

While I was picking out remnants at Jo-Ann, my hubby found these shadow boxes on sale. The same dimensions as the shadow boxes corkboard squares!

I found remnants of a pattern in three different colors (the third is a dark blue, not black)

I removed the glass from the shadow boxes, added the corkboard to the front of the frame board, wrapped the fabric, staple-gunned, put the frame back on, added T-pins and earrings, and voilà!

I have one more to do for the rest of my earrings and necklaces. I'll have to think of something else for my bracelets and rings to mix up things a little.

"I" hope you come back tomorrow for the continuation of the A to Z challenge. I'm so corny.

  1. I cracked up from the very beginning to the end of this post, Jen. For some reason you were just killing me with this narrative. Glad your tool holder finally happened - it's beauteous.
