Competing Stripes

Hubby shared some new photo apps with me. Love this effect!
My biggest fashion challenge is learning how not to be so matchy-matchy. Often I'm 80s matchy: black hat, black-and-red checkered earrings, red button-up shirt with collar up and sleeves rolled up, black bolo, black stirrups, and red pointy-toed heels. Okay, not really but I think I described one of my outfits from junior high. Or maybe that was my cousin?
Part of my steps to being less matchy-matchy is learning how to pattern mix and color mix. This outfit is a safe pattern and color mix. The stripes go in the same direction (how did I ever brave horizontal stripes?), and the colors are similar. The daring part is that the stripes on the tank are thicker than on my cardi. That's not too daring.
I will challenge myself to be more daring with patterns and colors and share my outfits here. With pattern mixing, I think there is a fine line between making it work and making it look like you got dressed in the dark half-asleep. I'm up for the challenge.

Not so exciting but oh so excited!

Not a very exciting outfit...
but I'm so excited that I found tall boots that fit my huge calves!

And, they were marked down to $25-something at the Nordstrom Rack!

I'm not anti-social!

My first instagram pic. Augie was being shy
about meeting his future cousin, Bea.

Yeah, we're bringing flannel back to Seattle!
While I am still resisting Facebook, I am not anti-Social Networking. I mean, I have this no longer dormant (though constantly napping) blog! It's just that I know I would be on FB all the time and my self-control starts before starting. A feature I like from FB is posting pictures and my cousin recently told me about another type of social networking that captures just that. It's official, I'm on instagram!

Sure, this blog affords me the opportunity to post pictures, but I am more interested in posting pictures of others. Also, it's a picture and a quick blurb. For some reason, I feel like I have to "speak more" here. I will still strive to post outfits here when I have a photographer. Otherwise, I will have most postings on instagram.com/wannabefolkie. Here I'll have copy; on instagram I will have headlines. Something like that.

Why not use my blog name for instagram? It's way too long. Sure I could have abbreviated to Jen HaHA. But I didn't. Plus, wannabefolkie is my ID. I wanted to be a folk/rock singer, okay? There, secret's out. Until this blog awakens from its next nap...see me dreaming away on instagram!

Give Me the Boot!

I don't mean kick me to the curb. I literally mean give me the boot because I can't seem to find them on my own.

I got these ones almost three years ago now. I have the hardest time finding boots that work for me. Okay, I can usually find booties because they don't fight with me when I try to put them on. These are between booties and mid-calf.

Tall boots: forget it. Even if I can get the zipper over my fat calves, the top of the boot hits my knee and they scruch down. Not in the cool scrunchy boot style. More like the I'm wearing hand-me-downs that won't fit me correctly for two more years look.

Mid-calf: where are they? Let me clarify: where are ones that don't cost over $200? Is my issue really that I have wide calves? Or is it the fact that I'm cheap? I like to say economical.

How do you like my autumn outfit? I think I have every color of changing leaves on. Argh, I should have worn my yellow earrings. Do our two gold-colored vehicles in the background count?

Round and Round

Yes, I am back to curly, wavy, whatever you call my natural hair. I wore it straight the last three days and I had to let it be free today. More so I didn't have time to blow dry and flatiron this morning.

Don't fret, I have not given up on wearing my hair straight on a regular basis. I just need to get into a routine of showering at night, letting my hair air dry, and then flat ironing it. It's so much easier to wake up with straight hair than wackadoodle hair the next day. Plus, when I wear my hair straight, I can go one day longer than my usual two without washing. My showering routine and hair-washing secret--you didn't realize this post is PG?
Wanted to share today's outfit and sadly this was the best picture. Also sad when the least messiest background in the whole house is behind the bathroom door. Does this look like a schoolgirl outfit? Maybe if I had better lighting and a real camera (yes, still my fruit phone) you could see the pleats in my skirt and the boyfriend cardi.
Just preparing to bring back "Jen-in-a-cube"!

That's all for today. Nothing clever or inspirational to say. Just trying to get back into the blogging world. If all the world's a stage, does that explain why my blog has no audience? Well, except you, Chastity. Hi!

Let's Get This Straight

After an awesome summer, the rains have finally
returned to Seattle. What sense does it make that I've decided
to start flatironing my hair and wearing it straight?

I'm back and going to strive to post regularly though not daily. I decided to clean up my sidebar because it was getting to be like that extra drawer in your bathroom--the one full of buttons. I saw this display template and decided to go with it because I want to concentrate more on posts and not being an art director of sorts. I like the simplicity yet sleekness of this display. You know me though, I hem and haw and you again may see a blog that resembles a high school locker with lots of color and cut outs and whatever the kids decorate with nowadays.

I may end up adding a button here-and-there because I will probably join challenges which usually requires posting the hosts button. How can I not join challenges? It's like the host is handing me a post idea. I will probably also give a shout out to bloggers who have supported me through bad posts and even worse pictures.

I'd like to speak more about my change of hairstyle but I will save that for my next post. I think long posts contributed to my blogging demise. I shall stick to the K.I.S.S. rule.

She's Alive!

...and the look of my dashboard has changed. Disappear for a few months and gremlins come and rearrange the furniture?

Just a quick post to let you know where I've been (and do a little shameless self-promotion). As you know, hubby started making statement rings because I had been buying them and he thought he'd try it out. We decided to sign up to show the rings at summer festivals and decided that we needed to offer other types of jewelry as well. so, I started making earrings, bracelets, and necklaces. We did a few festivals in the summer and a few in the fall. We did not blow any out of the water, but they were good experiences. While we definitely had more expense than sales, we are not giving up! (Good thing we have day jobs)

Here are some examples of our work (I'll work out the pictures next time):

I love goldstone. Here's a ring with three different sizes of brown goldstone rounds:

A vintage-inspired cameo necklace with carnelian (Pantone says tangerine is the color for 2012)

Bad picture (you know me and my fruit phone), but I think it gives the gist of these amethyst chandelier earrings)

Again, this is post is to let you know where I've been. Sorry that it's also shameless self-promotion. Since it is...feel free to "Like" us on Facebook!

Until next time (sooner than four months from now)...
